Two fake spice units sealed in Peshawar

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Monday claimed to have sealed two fake spices manufacturing units on Charsadda Road.
According to an official handout, fake spices were being produced in the units, where over 20,000 kilograms of harmful spices were seized.
It added harmful ingredients that were being used in spices and such unhealthy products were being supplied in different areas of the city and province.
Used edible oil, rice and harmful dyes were being mixed in the preparation of spices in the units. The authority sealed the units and imposed a heavy fine imposed on the operators.
The operation was carried out on the direction of Director General (DG) KPFSA Shahrukh Ali Khan. He said that the samples of the spices have been sent to the laboratory for further testing, adding that strict legal action will be taken against the manufacturers of harmful spices.
The authority has warned that a series of operations to ensure the quality of food in the province is ongoing.
Concerned food related businesses should ensure implementation of food safety SOPs otherwise strict legal action will be taken.
