The sub-committee of KP Standing Committee on Health has raised serious reservations over the unchecked growth of hair transplant, salons and other aesthetic centers, and warned their unchecked practices could prove potential sources of diseases spread in the community.
The committee issued instructions to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly administration to undertake visits to these centres and inspect their hygiene practices and legal framework for installation of their business in the provincial capital.
The meeting of the committee was chaired by woman MPA Rehana Ismail and attended by members including MPAs Falak Naz, Dr Samira Shams, Special and Additional Secretaries Health Department, Additional Secretary and DG Industry Department, Deputy and Assistant Secretaries of the Provincial Assembly, CEO Health Care Commission, Assistant Advocate General Peshawar High Court and Section Officers of the Law Department and other relevant officers.
The forum also appreciated woman lawmaker Shagufta Malik for raising the issue on the floor of assembly.
The chairperson of the sub-committee maintained that practical steps are on the card to bring all the aesthetic centers in the province under the rules of hygiene and legal framework.
“Tools being used in saloons and hair transplants centers can be proved fatal for human health and may be contributing to the spread of various diseases,” she warned.
The committee also directed the Law and Industry department of the province to brief the forum about Consumer Act in the next committee meeting to devise an action plan against these centers.
Committee member and MPA Shagufta Malik emphasized on the inspections of the units providing service to customers across the province.
Chairperson of the committee and member of the provincial assembly Rehana Ismail also instructed the assembly administration to develop proper mechanisms for their visits and submit reports to the committee. The committee also summoned officials of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and Deputy Commissioner Peshawar in the next committee meeting.
On this occasion, it was also agreed to discuss the necessary and required amendments in the Healthcare Commission Act 2015 in the next committee meeting.
