Toxic waste from the Kotri industrial zone continues to contaminate the KB Feeder canal, posing a growing threat to public health and the environment. Despite mounting concerns, authorities have yet to take meaningful action to stop the pollution.
The KB Feeder, which carries water to Keenjhar Lake, serves as a major source of drinking water for millions in Karachi and Thatta and supports agriculture across the region. With toxic chemicals pouring in daily, both human lives and aquatic ecosystems are being endangered.
Local activist Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, from Jhimpir, has raised alarm over the dire consequences of continued pollution. “Skin diseases, diarrhea, and other health problems are spreading rapidly. Fish and aquatic species are dying off,” Shah said, highlighting the urgent need for intervention.
Shah has called on the Chief Minister of Sindh, the Deputy Commissioner of Thatta, and other officials to step in immediately. He stressed the importance of halting the waste discharge and protecting Keenjhar Lake from further damage.
Despite public protests and media attention, the authorities remain silent.
Residents fear that if action is not taken soon, the damage may become irreversible.
