A senior World Bank (WB) official and the head of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC) on Thursday discussed the need for aligning workforce training with the evolving demands of industry, as part of efforts to strengthen sustainable economic growth in the province.
Javier Sanchez, Senior Economist for Social Policy at the World Bank Pakistan, called on KPEZDMC Chief Executive Officer Mr. Shaharyar Gul to explore avenues for collaboration focused on developing a skilled, future-ready workforce across the province’s economic zones.
During the meeting, both sides emphasised the importance of demand-driven training programmes tailored to emerging industrial professions, particularly in light of rapid technological advancements and shifting market requirements.
They noted that bridging the gap between industry needs and workforce capabilities remains critical for enhancing productivity and competitiveness.
Senior management officials from KPEZDMC were also present on the occasion and contributed to discussions on institutional coordination, public-private partnerships, and capacity-building initiatives.
The participants agreed to further explore joint strategies aimed at equipping the local workforce with relevant technical and vocational skills, ensuring inclusive growth and improved employment opportunities.
