The Pakistan United Workers Federation has called on the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to immediately grant ownership rights to labor colonies, fix monthly wages for all workers, and register those employed in the informal sector.
These demands were raised during a Labor Day ceremony held at Bacha Khan Chowk, Peshawar, organized by the provincial chapter of the federation.
Prominent labor leaders including Provincial President Muhammad Iqbal, Central Chief Organizer Wali Muhammad, General Secretary Razam Khan, Malik Naveed, and others participated in the event.
They expressed concern that labor laws, including wage regulations, were not being properly implemented, especially in factories where workers were denied fixed monthly salaries.
Speakers emphasized the historical significance of Labor Day, commemorating the sacrifices of Chicago workers, and criticized the government’s inaction toward workers’ welfare. They urged authorities to take strict action against factory owners and employers who fail to pay full and fair wages.
The Federation also highlighted the urgent need to provide housing for laborers, many of whom live in rented homes under difficult conditions.
They demanded that workers be given legal ownership of labor colony residences to ensure long-term security.
The Pakistan United Workers Federation announced that it will continue its protest movement and advocate for labor rights on all available platforms.
