Addressing the function, Khaista Rehman said that the medium of radio is a powerful medium for spreading awareness in the society regarding climatic changes and food security, adding that radio continues to be one of the most ‘trusted’ and ‘inexpensive’ media in the world.
Khaista Rehman said that KP is faced with a number of challenges due to environmental degradation and radio communications in particular are essential tools in the combat against climate change in our region.
Asif Mohmand, a well known radio multimedia journalist, shared on the occasion of World Radio Day that the world is experiencing a digital media age but radio is still a powerful medium, adding that radio has played a very key role in disasters. “In the Covid-19 pandemic, the radio role was commendable,” he added.
Asif said that radio has the unique ability to reach out the widest audience and it (radio) in America is still the most widely consumed medium.
He also pinpointed that this medium is being used for commercial purposes in KP.
It is pertinent to mention here that on the occasion of World Radio Day 2022, UNESCO calls on radio stations worldwide to celebrate this event’s 11th edition and more than a century of radio.
This year the edition of World Radio Day has been divided into three main sub-themes including trust in radio journalism, trust and accessibility, and trust and viability of radio.
This day was first proclaimed by the member states of UNESCO and it was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as an international day, February 13 became World Radio Day.
