Water and Sanitation Services Company Mardan (WSSCM) and Mardan Youth Academy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at educating students on modern waste management policies and practices. The agreement signed by Chief Executive Officer WSSCM Shahid Khan and Principal Mardan Youth Academy Rashid Ahmad.
The signing ceremony attended by Chairman Board of Directors Engineer Adil Nawaz, Board Member Haroon Rashid, CEO Mardan Youth Academy Professor Dr. Naseer Ahmad, General Manager WSSCM Muhammad Khalil Akbar, Manager Municipal Services Muhammad Ishaq and Manager HR & Admin Fazali Subhan.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO WSSCM Shahid Khan stated that the primary objective of this initiative is to raise awareness among students about cleanliness, recycling, and sustainable environmental practices, laying the foundation for a clean and green Mardan. He emphasized that this partnership will not only provide students with practical training and knowledge but also serve as a significant milestone toward UN sustainable development goals.
He further added that under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, which emphasizes access to clean water and sanitation, it is essential to raise awareness in the younger generation to enhance services and ensure greater benefits to citizens with limited resources. He also highlighted that the MoU will facilitate the exchange of experiences to transform waste into useful products and reduce the burden on dumping sites.
CEO Mardan Youth Academy Professor Dr. Naseer Ahmad hailed the MoU as a milestone and said that practical steps have been initiated to align students with modern requirements and train them with new techniques. He added that this initiative will be extended to other schools in Mardan city as well.
Dr. Naseer also lauded WSSCM’s services in waste management, stating that the partnership will not only help reduce environmental pollution but also enable the production of reusable materials from waste for economic development and creating job opportunities in Mardan.
