In line with the progressive vision of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and President Asif Ali Zardari to uplift prison conditions and convert jails into genuine rehabilitation centers, Sindh Minister for Works & Services and Prisons, Haji Ali Hassan Zardari, conducted an unannounced visit to Malir District Jail on Wednesday.
The visit came in the aftermath of a recent incident where an inmate reportedly escaped during the disruption caused by an earthquake. The minister’s inspection focused on evaluating the overall security arrangements, hygiene standards, and welfare facilities within the jail premises.
During the visit, Minister Zardari expressed serious concern over security lapses and administrative shortcomings. He issued strict instructions to the jail administration and prison police to ensure dignified treatment of inmates and to streamline family visitation procedures, particularly for women, making them more humane and accessible.
He made it clear that any negligence or misconduct by prison staff would not be tolerated and would lead to immediate disciplinary and legal action.
Inspecting the jail’s kitchen facilities, the minister stressed the necessity of providing clean, nutritious meals in accordance with health and hygiene standards. He also reviewed the condition of the jail hospital, examining medical equipment and assessing the adequacy of healthcare services provided to inmates.
As part of the ongoing jail extension and development project, Minister Zardari evaluated the progress of construction work and personally engaged with prisoners to listen to their grievances and suggestions.
Addressing the media after the inspection, Haji Ali Hassan Zardari reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to implementing the PPP’s manifesto of equitable public service. He emphasized that meaningful and sustainable reforms in the prison system of Sindh are being pursued under the forward-looking guidance of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and President Asif Ali Zardari.
The minister concluded by reiterating that those found responsible for any form of negligence or abuse would face firm action without exception.
