1200 scholarships for deserving girls’ students announced

International volunteer organization “VSO” and Participatory Rural Development Society (PRDS) announced a scholarship scheme for female students including Afghan girls, leaving their school prematurely without completing their education, due to poverty, lack of access, cultural barriers and other issues.
The scholarships will be awarded to the deserving girls aged 13 to 18 years in selected districts of the province for the metric education.
The joint initiative of VSO, Allama Iqbal Open University and PRDS will enable 1200 girl students in district Peshawar, Nowshera and Charsadda to get free admission through the distance learning system of AIOU.
Program Manager MYRP KP, Tariq Hayat Yousafzai said that the dropped out or those girls who had left their education due to certain impending factors can apply for free admission in the Metric program at AIOU. Their fees will be paid by PRDS under the ongoing Multi Years Resilience Program. Girl students can submit their applications till September 5, 2024 in AIOU regional campus Peshawar.
He said the aim of this initiative is to encourage those female students and Afghan refugees’ children, who couldn’t continue their studies due to multiple reasons. Under the ECW funded Multi-Year Resilience Program, free textbooks will also be distributed among the students besides giving them free admission.
The students of these three selected districts can get the admission form and prospectus from the nearest regional offices of Allama Iqbal Open University free of cost,
While the applications along with form-B can be submitted till 5th September, 2024. After proper scrutiny of the documents of the students and short listing, the eligible students will be given scholarships for a period of 2 years, so that they could complete their matriculation.
Tariq Hayat furthered the objective of this initiative is to promote female’s education in these districts and encourage the girls to continue their educational activities for their better future.
