LAHORE
First artificial rain experiment has succeeded in Pakistan and the rain has been made in most of Lahore areas, caretaker Punjab chief minister Moshin Naqvi.
Chief Minister in his address to media said 48 fliers fire were used in flight of maiden artificial rain in Pakistan.
Lahore was the most polluted city today morning when the artificial rain was made, he said the second rain flight will be made soon.
Talking about expenses chief minister said our single penny has not been spent on rain but if needed I haven’t hesitated bear the expenditures.
Further he said caretaker federal government is also working on artificial rain also. Almost ten areas of Lahore have been artificially rained and now we will measure its impact.
CM thanked United Arab Emirates (UAE) team. He said our main purpose was rain so that smog be ended because if smog ends it will have impact till 5 to 7 days.
Further we will decide after measuring complete results of this rain today.
Rain was initiated in 10 percent area of Lahore around nine o’clock on Saturday morning.
Caretaker government was considering the idea of artificial rain from the beginning of winter season when Lahore city and its vicinity went under smog shield.
Artificial rain is modification of climate controlling measure to induce shower into clouds to condense or ice nuclei which will encourage formation and growth of perception particles.
Silver iodide, potassium iodide and liquid propane are the main substances used in this human made rain.
Artificial rain encompasses many environmental issues including ethical, meteorological concerns.
One of the main concerns is potential environmental impact. Chemical like silver iodide also raises questions its impact on ecosystem while silver iodide is consider relatively low in toxicity, accumulation and possible effects on wildlife and water quality and the research is ongoing in this regard.
Thorough and long term monitoring is also necessary for unforeseen consequences of artificial rain on ecosystem.
