410 public transporters fined for overcharging commuters

The district administration on Monday imposed fines on drivers of 410 public transport vehicles on various routes for charging extra fare from commuters on the pretext of running on petrol after closure of CNG stations in the province.
According to the details, on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Peshawar Shafiullah Khan, the administrative officers along with the officers of Regional Transport Authority, Traffic Police and Excise Department conducted inspection of vehicles on GT Road, Kohat Road, Charsadda Road and Jamrud Road.
A total of 410 vehicle owners from different areas of Peshawar were fined on the spot for collecting more than the fixed fare from the commuters.
DC Shafiullah Khan has directed administrative officers to inspect vehicles on daily basis at transport stations and inter-district roads across Peshawar and take legal action against vehicle owners charging more than the prescribed fares.
