85 shopkeepers arrested for overcharging in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The district administration on Monday arrested 85 shopkeepers for selling essential edible items at exorbitant rate during the holy month of Ramadan, said a handout. During the operations, 234 shops were inspected and 85 shopkeepers were arrested for selling expensive goods, absence of official price list, low weight bread and poor hygiene conditions, while 39 shopkeepers were warned for further improvement. The district administration conducted raids in Charsadda Road, DalaZak Road, Hayatabad, Kohat Road, University Road, Board Bazar, Tehkal, Gulbahar, Inner City Bazars, Warsak Road and other areas of the provincial metropolis. The arrested shopkeepers include vegetable and fruit sellers, bakers, lion sellers, general store owners and others, against whom legal action will be taken. Official price lists were issued in the markets and later implementation of the official price lists was ensured throughout Peshawar. Deputy Commissioner Peshawar has ordered administrative officers to continuously inspect the markets across Peshawar and take legal action against those involved in overcharging.
