Ahmedzai Wazir tribe offers 0.4 mln kanal for 10BTAP plantations

The Ahmedzai Wazir tribe of South Waziristan has offered 400,000 kanal land for carrying out massive plantations under PTI Govt’s flagship billion trees afforestration project in South Waziristan tribal district.
The land was offered to the Secretary Environment, Forests and Wildlife, Shahidullah Khan during a representative Jirga of Ahmedzai Wazir tribes held at the office of Assistant Commissioner Wana South Waziristan, Amir Nawaz.
The Ahmezai tribes assured full support to the Secretary Environment for carrying out massive plantations and its effective supervision in their respective areas.
In his address, Secretary Shahidullah said 10 BTAP has been extended to merged areas including South Waziristan to offset the growing effect of climate change and global warming besides bringing its vast areas under forestry cover.
He said around 50pc plantations would be made in merged areas including South Waziristan for which land was identified.
Shahidullah Khan said employment opportunities to more than 900 persons would be provided during 10BTAP plantations in South Waziristan.
He said one billion saplings of different species would be planted during next four years in KP including merged areas under Plant for Pakistan.
To achieve afforestration targets and ensure watering to new planted saplings, he said, 40 water tankers and 20 mini trucks were being provided to Forest Department.
The secretary paid detailed visit of South Waziristan where he formally inaugurated spring plantations by planting a tree at the office of Forest Department. Chief Conservators Forests Ali Gohar Khan, Conservator Merged Areas Farhatullah Khan and DFO South Waziristan Salim Khan Marwat accompanied the Secretary.
Shahidullah Khan inspected newly raised forest nurseries and visited Agriculture Park Wana. He also visited Zeendawar mountains range near Pak-Afghan border and directed the staff for foolproof measures for protection of forest resources. He also directed establishment of forest check post in the area to check unlawful transportation of timber.
