The government of Khyber Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to challenge the verdict of Peshawar High Court (PHC) in retirement age extension case.
Addressing a press conference here Wednesday in the Conference Room at Civil Secretariat, the Minister for Finance, Taimoor Saleem Jhagra said that the provincial government respects courts, but they had taken the decision after approval from cabinet as well as from the provincial assembly.
He said that through amendments in the Civil Servants Act, saying that the Act is neither out of the ambit of provincial legislature nor they had contravened basic human rights.
He said that the provincial government would file review petition for suspension of the verdict to get relief. He said that provincial government is following its reform agenda and the decision to increase the retirement age is part of that agenda.
The minister said that the government soon after release of detailed judgment of PHC will challenge it in Supreme Court.
He defended the decision of increase in the retirement age for the government employees, as it would save funds to divert them for development schemes and help general public in the province.
It is worth mentioning here that a division bench of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) headed by Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth and Justice Naeem Anwar void the decision of KP government increasing retirement age of government employees from 60 to 63.
