The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police held its central Independence Day ceremony at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines on Thursday, with Inspector General Zulfiqar Hameed presiding as chief guest and calling on citizens to mark 14 August with patriotic fervour and caution.
A smartly turned-out contingent of Peshawar Police presented a salute to the national flag, which the IG hoisted to mark Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day. Senior officers, including Capital City Police Officer Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad, Chief Traffic Officer Dr Zahidullah, SSP Operations Farhan Khan, SSP Investigation, Commandant Campus Mujibur Rehman and divisional SPs, attended the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, IG Hameed described 14 August as “a day of renewal of commitment,” and said the force’s energies remained devoted to the defence of the country and the maintenance of peace.
“Independence Day is a reminder that our martyrs laid down their lives for this land. We will spare no sacrifice to protect it, and love for the homeland is part of our faith,” he said. “Citizens should celebrate with full enthusiasm and in a safe manner. Our brave officers and jawans are on the roads and on duty to protect public life and property.”
Special prayers were offered for the progress, security and stability of the country and the nation.
In line with the celebrations, all police stations, official buildings and police vehicles across Peshawar were decorated with the national flag to highlight the spirit of patriotism.
The IG reiterated that KP Police personnel would remain deployed throughout the festivities to ensure citizens could observe the day peacefully.
