Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed called on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Faisal Amin Gandapur at Local Government Secretariat Peshawar and gave him a detailed briefing on the Local Government, Elections and Rural Development Department, its administrative structure, rules, regulations and over all performance.
The Minister was also apprised of the four major organs working under the department, namely Directorate General of Local Government, Local Council Board, Area Development Authorities and Foreign Aided Projects besides development portfolios and ongoing projects.
He was informed that out of Rs. 144 Billion, total annual development program (ADP) of the department, the schemes completed under foreign assistance worth Rs. 97b in the vital public interest areas of potable drinking water supply and solid wastes management.
The Secretary Local Government said that the department is making every effort to ensure transparent and judicious use of these funds in the largest public interest.
Similarly, he said, under the Area Development Authorities, 83 major schemes are being implemented with allocation of Rs 111 billion whereas Rs 32 billion have been set aside for local development besides numerous other rural development schemes being completed. He said that TMAs in all urban areas of the province including merged districts are being made vitally functional under Local Council Board while Area Development Authorities Board is also being more streamlined to improve the performance of Area Development Authorities.
Expressing satisfaction over the performance of the Local Government Department, Faisal Amin Gandapur appreciated the dynamic role of the Secretary Local Government in this regard and assured his full cooperation and patronage to make the development activities of the department more efficient. He clarified that he would not shy away from going to any extent for the wider interest and facilitation of the people. Shields were also exchanged at the end of the meeting.
