Food Fortification law a milestone development says DG Shahrukh

Director General (DG ) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority Shahrukh Ali Khan has said that approval of the Food Fortification law to ensure major vitamins in the indigenous as well as imported essential food items is an important milestone to overcome the lack of essential nutrients in our daily diet, such as vitamins and minerals.
He said that the law ensures all vitamins in food items such as Atta, Ghee which will be helpful to overcome mental and physical problems due to lack of nutrition in the diet.
He expressed these views during a meeting with Nutrition International Country Director Dr Shabina Raza here on Thursday.
Amtiyar Ali Shah, Regional Program Manager of Nutrition International, Rashid Saleem and Mudassar Shah, Zonal Manager were also present on this occasion.
DG Food Safety Authority Shahrukh Ali Khan said that to control nutritional deficiencies in food, it will be fortified by adding essential nutrients to flour including edible oil and ghee.
Shahrukh Ali Khan said that KP Food Safety Authority was working to establish a separate Nutrition Wing to oversee food safety and nutrition in the food available in the market for consumers.
He thanked Nutrition International for working on the critical issue of under-nutrition and said that their services in the field of nutrition are invaluable.
Country Director Nutrition International Dr Shabina Raza said that the role of Food Safety Authority is very important in providing quality and safe food to the citizens in the province.
Nutrition International’s collaboration with the Authority will continue, and technical support will also be provided through periodic programs for staff training.
