PESHAWAR
Secretary Irrigation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tahir Orkazai on Wednesday termed climate change one of the major drives behind the food insecurity challenges in the globe, saying access to clean water is the basic rights of everyone.
While speaking to participants of an event held in connection with World Food Day in Orakzai district, he said that food security initiatives must be ensured on priority basis.
The provincial secretary irrigation said that climate change poses significant challenges to human health, food system and clean water for drinking.
A statement issued here said the purpose of the World Food Day event is to create awareness among the people to ensure sanitation and secure clean water to solve global food problems, fight against hunger, malnutrition and poverty.
The ceremony was attended by officers, elders, municipal representatives, students and representatives of the government departments of Orakzai district.
Tahir Orkazai said that we have to adopt a very responsible attitude in the matter of food and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization is taking many steps in this regard for public awareness.
Addressing the event, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Upper Tehsil Imtiaz Ali Shah, District Director of Agriculture Zilla Orkazai Faiq Iqbal, Agriculture Officer Irfanullah, Axin Irrigation Javed Iqbal and others also spoke and urged the participants to highlight the benefits of good food in their respective areas.
