PESHAWAR: Director General (DG) Health Services, Dr. Shaukat Ali, has expressed concern over the increasing cases of pneumonia due to the intensity of the cold weather. He appealed to parents to take special care of their children by ensuring they wear warm clothing when going outside. According to the spokesperson of the Director General Health Services and Director Public Health, Dr. Arshad Roghani, in October of last year, 6,219 cases of pneumonia were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while by December, the number of children under the age of 5 affected by pneumonia had risen to 11,551. Dr. Roghani added that in the last three months, the highest number of cases, 8,068, were reported in males, with 4,000 cases in Haripur, 3,200 in Dera Ismail Khan, and 2,800 in Peshawar. Hee further highlighted that during the same period, 2,700 cases were reported in Swabi, 1,000 in Charsadda, and 900 in Lakki Marwat. Director General Health Services emphasized the need for immediate preventive measures and advised parents to be vigilant, especially in colder regions, to protect their children from the harsh weather conditions and the associated health risks.
