SBBWU Peshawar launches monsoon plantation drive

The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar (SBBWU), Prof. Dr Safia Ahmed on Thursday launched the monsoon plantation drive by planting a sapling in the university.
The drive was launched in collaboration with the Climate Change Forestry Environment and Wildlife Department, GYM Club and directorate of administration of the university.
The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from various community members and organizations dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability.
The presence of such diverse groups underscored the community’s shared commitment to tackling climate change through practical and immediate actions, like planting trees.
This initiative not only represents a step towards a greener future but also serves as a model for other institutions to follow.
On the occasion, Divisional Forest Officer Tariq Khadim, spoke passionately about the importance of such initiatives in addressing the pressing issue of climate change.
The SDFO Sattar khan and Community Development Officer Shaida Muhammad Khan were also present, each bringing their expertise and support to the event.
The Administrative officers along with faculty members and the Green Youth Movement members eagerly joined the plantation activity, taking turns to plant trees. (T.I) set the tone by planting the first tree, a symbolic act that underscored her commitment to environmental sustainability.
This gesture was followed by the distinguished guests, and then Dr. Faiza Tawab, Focal person GYM Club each contributing to the noble cause with visible enthusiasm.
Their participation was not just a formal duty but a demonstration of their genuine concern for the environment. It also served as an inspiration to all attendees, reinforcing the importance of collective action and community engagement in achieving environmental goals.
The sight of faculty members and students working side by side in planting trees was a powerful reminder of the unity and shared purpose that drives such initiatives. Different species of plants and different kinds of sustainable plants were planted.
The Vice Chancellor, while sharing her thoughts said that the essence of initiating the plantation drive should not be restricted to planting of trees only but to create a sense of awareness among everyone to take it as a moral responsibility to take care of the plants and make the environment greener and healthier for the upcoming generations to come.
She said that we are facing extreme temperature hikes from the past few years because of damaging nature and cutting forests which is very alarming.
The green drives must be started on wider scales so as to protect the environment.
She lauded the efforts of all the collaborators and participants as their involvement reflected the broader community’s commitment to creating a greener, healthier environment for future generations.
