The Private Education Network (PEN) has strongly rejected the decision to extend winter vacations until January 6, criticizing the move as detrimental to students’ futures. PEN officials argue that those responsible for such decisions are out of touch with the realities on the ground.
With the annual matriculation exams approaching, PEN Provincial President Muhammad Saleem Khan and General Secretary Tahir Amin Khan questioned the rationale behind extending the break, suggesting that the government’s actions were playing with the future of children.
Speaking to journalists, the PEN leaders pointed out that in European countries, where cold and snowy weather is common throughout the year, schools continue their educational activities.
They attributed the success of these countries in the field of education to their consistent approach.
PEN leaders further emphasized that extending the vacations negatively impacts teachers, who are under pressure to complete their courses within a set timeframe. They proposed that instead of prolonging the vacations, adjusting school hours would have been a more practical solution.
They also noted that KP does not face the same extreme weather conditions as cities like Lahore, and with the weather improving due to the sunrise, it would have been more appropriate to consult the Meteorological Department before making such decisions.
The PEN leaders called for better coordination between institutions and urged the Education Minister to involve the private sector in policymaking, as it plays a vital role in the education system, to ensure that the future of the nation’s children is safeguarded.
