IGP briefs lawmakers on ‘prevailing security situation in KP’

An in-camera sitting of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on the security situation prevailing in the province was held on Tuesday.
KP Assembly speaker Babar Saleem Swati chaired the meeting which was attended by provincial ministers, parliamentary leaders of the opposition.
During the meeting, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Akhtar Hayat Khan Gandapur, briefed the members on the current law and order situation in the province.
He highlighted the performance of the police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), as well as provided insights into the formations of militants and the Action Aid process.
After the meeting, Speaker Swati emphasized that reviewing law and order was a top priority, given that KP holds the status of a “buffer province.”
He mentioned that, in addition to the police briefing, the assembly would soon receive a briefing from the Corps Commander Peshawar, which would inform future actions.
Swati also expressed that the in-camera meeting helped foster dialogue, particularly involving opposition members, and he looked forward to resolving the issues through collective efforts.
Opposition lawmaker and PPP leader Ahmed Karim Kundi praised the Speaker for including the opposition in the discussions, emphasizing the public’s demand for protection and expressing hope that such meetings would contribute to solutions.
He also highlighted the Speaker’s past success in addressing issues during the Pashtun Tahafuz Jirga by forming a committee to resolve conflicts amicably.
The IG-KP , speaking to the media, confirmed that the meeting had been productive, with a detailed discussion on the prevailing law and order situation in the province.
He noted that this was the first such meeting, with more planned in the future to address ongoing concerns.
