Commissioner seeks action against enterprises violating minimum wage law

Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud has ordered strict action against private sector enterprises failing to comply with the mandatory minimum wage of Rs 36,000.
The directive, In line with instructions from Ali Amin Gandapur, aims to ensure workers receive their legal entitlements and improve enforcement of labor laws in the Peshawar Division, said an official handout.
The Commissioner also directed that all workers’ salaries be paid through banks.
The order issued in a meeting, attended by Deputy Commissioners, Labor Department officials, and the Employees Social Security Institute, discussed steps to ensure compliance with the minimum wage law.
It was decided to form special teams consisting of district administration and Labor Department personnel to register employees and recover dues from non-compliant industries.
Industries and institutions paying Rs 36,000 or more, along with other benefits, will be encouraged.
Additionally, the Labor Court will be activated, and regular meetings will be held by Deputy Commissioners to ensure compliance.
A special award and appreciation certificate were also announced for Imtiaz Mega Mart for offering salaries above Rs 36,000 and providing additional benefits to its workers.
