Adviser to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Information and Public Relations, Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, has strongly criticized the federal government for failing to pass on the benefits of falling international crude oil prices to the public.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Barrister Saif said that the recent marginal reduction in oil prices was insufficient and symbolic. “It is like cumin in the mouth of a camel,” he remarked, adding that a reduction of at least Rs 20 per liter should have been implemented in April alone.
He alleged that the federal government suspended two expected price reductions in April, thereby depriving the people of much-needed relief.
“This is a government that only offers relief through advertisements. There is no seriousness in addressing inflation or public hardship,” he said.
Drawing a comparison with previous administrations, Barrister Saif stated that current international oil prices were lower than those during the tenure of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, under whom petrol was priced at Rs 150 per liter.
He argued that the present government has failed to reflect these global changes in local prices.
“The people are stuck in the quicksand of inflation while the rulers enjoy luxuries,” he added.
