Special Assistant to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Communication & Works, Muhammad Sohail Afridi has welcomed the probe initiated by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a major corruption scandal in Upper Kohistan. Mr. Afridi has termed the action by NAB a positive development and called for thorough and transparent investigation into the matter which pertains to embezzlement of billions rupees of public funds.
The Special Assistant has said that in January, during an online public forum, a complaint from a citizen was taken up by his office and an immediate inquiry was recommended. The complaint highlighted irregular distribution of development funds, issuance of fake cheques and fund transfers to fake companies.
Mr. Afridi reaffirmed the government’s stance against corruption, emphasizing that safeguarding public resources is top priority. He resolved that those involved in corruption will be brought to justice, regardless of their status or influence.
He further stated that all departments relevant to the case are required by law to fully cooperate with NAB, providing necessary records and extending every possible support. He urged the bureau to widen the scope of the investigation by including all concerned institutions and individuals in order to uncover the full extent of the organized financial crime.
The Special Assistant assured that investigation of this case will contribute towards building a stronger accountability system in the province, resulting in effective reforms to prevent the occurrence of such malpractices in future.
