An important meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Legislation, formed by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was held under the chairmanship of the Provincial Minister for Law, Aftab Alam Advocate, in the committee room of the Law Department.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs, Sahibzada Adnan Qadri, Advocate General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shah Faisal Utmankhel, Secretary Law Akhtar Saeed Turk, Secretary Board of Revenue Muhammad Irshad, Secretary Auqaf Inayatullah Waseem, Additional Advocate General Mudassar Ahmad, as well as officials from the Home Department, Tourism, Culture, and other relevant departments.
The meeting included a detailed discussion on proposed amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 aimed at the effective prevention of crime. Participants presented their respective suggestions.
Advocate General Shah Faisal Utmankhel informed the meeting that, since the proposed bill relates to the judicial system, consultation with the Peshawar High Court—particularly the Chief Justice—is essential.
Minister for Law Aftab Alam Advocate emphasized that the proposed laws must be aligned with the Constitution, ensuring a balanced distribution of powers between the judiciary and the district administration.
Amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Police Act, 2019, and the extension of the tenure of the Tourism Police were also discussed.
The Law Minister stated that tourism police play a significant role in developed countries and that steps would be taken to strengthen this sector legally for the promotion of tourism at the provincial level.
Additionally, various proposals were discussed regarding the West Pakistan Historical Mosques and Shrines Fund Cess and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Waqf Properties (Amendment) Bill 2025. Participants suggested that the funds collected through the cess related to historical mosques and shrines should be utilized for their preservation and restoration.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Law Minister directed the officials of the concerned departments to finalize all proposals so that they may be formally given legal status.
