The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the University of Peshawar has expressed serious concern and grief over the non-payment of June salaries and pensions to teaching and non-teaching staff, warning of protests and potential legal action if immediate payments are not made.
In a strongly worded statement, JAC leaders said that repeated requests and reminders have gone unanswered, leaving employees of the KP’s oldest university struggling to meet basic household, health, and daily needs.
They added that the delay has caused immense mental stress, particularly for lower-grade employees who are the sole breadwinners of their families.
The JAC called on the provincial government to immediately release special emergency financial assistance to the university, stating that continued silence on the matter was not only heartbreaking but also demoralizing for the academic community.
“This is not merely a financial crisis, it reflects a deeper moral and administrative failure of both the government and the university administration,” the statement read.
The committee warned that if the issue was not resolved promptly, educational and administrative activities may come to a halt.
The JAC has urged Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, the provincial finance and education ministers, and all relevant authorities to take immediate and effective action before the situation worsens further.
