Deputy Commissioner Swat Saleem Jan formally launched the monsoon tree plantation campaign by planting an orange sapling in the green area of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Saidu Sharif.
A high-level meeting chaired by the Deputy Commissioner was held to review preparations for the monsoon plantation drive. District Forest Officers from Lower Swat, Upper Swat, and the Kalam Region attended the meeting in person, while Assistant Commissioners, Additional Assistant Commissioners, and Tehsil Municipal Officers from across Swat district joined via video link. Officials and representatives from various line departments were also present. During the meeting, the District Forest Officer presented a detailed briefing on the plantation campaign planned under the “Billion Trees Plus” initiative of the provincial government.
It was announced that a variety of fruit and shade trees will be planted throughout the district. The Forest Department will provide free plants to government institutions and the general public. DC Saleem Jan instructed all Assistant Commissioners, TMOs, and concerned officials to ensure the success of the campaign by coordinating closely with forest officers in their respective tehsils. He emphasized the planting of fruit trees in all government institutions, in line with the chief minister’s vision.
Importantly, the meeting highlighted that plantation alone is not sufficient—proper care and protection of saplings is vital. The Deputy Commissioner urged all departments to ensure regular watering and adopt protective measures for the young trees.
He also called on the public to actively participate in the monsoon plantation campaign, noting the growing importance of forests and greenery in combating the effects of climate change. “We must all play our part in creating a greener, pollution-free environment for future generations,” he said.
