Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shahab Ali Shah has reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to safeguarding children against measles, rubella and polio, declaring these immunisation drives among the government’s top public-health priorities.
He made these remarks while presiding over a high-level review meeting on the ongoing measles–rubella vaccination campaign and preparations for the upcoming anti-polio drive.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary Health, the Provincial Coordinator of the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and other senior officials, while Deputy Commissioners and District Health Officers joined via video link.
Officials briefed the forum that the national measles and rubella vaccination campaign is progressing successfully across the province.
In the first three days, more than 1.2 million children have been vaccinated. The campaign, running from November 17 to 29 in 37 districts, targets children aged six months to five years.
In selected districts, polio drops are also being administered concurrently. Vaccination facilities have been set up in government health centres, designated temporary sites, schools and madrasas.
During the meeting, preparations for the upcoming anti-polio campaign were also reviewed. Deputy Commissioners were directed to finalise all arrangements and submit detailed reports by December 10.
The coordinated province-wide polio drive is scheduled to begin on December 15, for which groundwork has already been initiated.
CS-KP Shahab Ali Shah emphasised that all campaigns will be implemented through a comprehensive and well-coordinated strategy to ensure maximum coverage and protection for children across the province.
