A five-day special campaign has been launched in District Mardan to eliminate intestinal worms among children. Under this campaign, anti-worm medicines will be administered to 942,014 children aged 5 to 14 years and 116,882 children aged 2 to 4 years.
The campaign was formally inaugurated at Government Girls Middle School, Bijli Ghar, Mardan, by Additional Assistant Commissioner Mardan Maryam Barki, District Coordinator Public Health Dr. Robina Riaz, Deputy District Education Officer (Female) Malik Taja, District Program Officer ESEF Syed Amjad Ali Shah, Assistant Commissioner (UT) Ikhlas Saleem, AD Education Sadia, and ADC/DHO Mardan Mehrein Iqbal. The school headmistress and District Coordinator of the Deworming Program Muhammad Amjad Khan were also present on the occasion.
According to District Coordinator Deworming Program Muhammad Amjad Khan, students of both government and private schools across District Mardan, as well as children aged 2 to 4 years, will be given deworming medicine to eliminate intestinal worms.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, District Coordinator Public Health Dr. Robina Riaz said that the annual large-scale deworming campaign is crucial for the physical and intellectual development of children.
It helps develop resistance against infections, improves school performance, and supports the Government of Pakistan’s health priorities, which include eliminating malnutrition and anemia. She said that deworming is a fast, easy and safe method of treatment.
She appealed to parents and teachers to cooperate with the health department staff to make the campaign successful. She further stated that approximately 1,058,896 children in schools and madrasas across District Mardan will be provided free and safe medicine to protect them from intestinal worms. She urged everyone to benefit from this large-scale campaign and ensure that their children receive the free and safe medicine as soon as possible so their future can be made bright and safe.
