Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan on Thursday claimed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s digital transformation had gained significant international recognition as the province’s flagship Dastak App secured first position in the Government and Citizen Services category at the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2025 held in Taiwan, where 17 countries participated.
He said that the achievement was a powerful endorsement of the provincial government’s commitment to technology-led governance, transparent service delivery, and citizen-centric digital reforms.
“Those accusing the government of ‘bad governance’ should first evaluate their own performance,” he said.
“The global success of the Dastak App is a clear reflection of our practical efforts to bring services to citizens’ doorsteps and eliminate corruption through technology.”
Highlighting the significance of the award, Shafi Jan said the app has emerged as an international model of transparency, AI integration, and efficient public service delivery.
Winning the category after 14 years, he noted, demonstrates that KP was leading Pakistan’s digital future.
He revealed that only two Pakistani digital solutions–KP’s “Dastak App” and the “Tourist Information Management System”–qualified as finalists.
Both received appreciation from global ICT experts, and several countries have expressed strong interest in adopting KP’s digital governance frameworks.
Calling it a “revolutionary step,” Shafi Jan explained that the Dastak App enables citizens to obtain a wide range of government services from home, including: arms licenses, excise registrations, educational scholarship applications, property tax payments, and various other services.
The Special Assistant emphasized that this progress reflects the practical realization of PTI founding chairman Imran Khan’s digital governance vision. The KP digital model, he said, has now become a benchmark for other provinces.
He shared that work on the “Cashless Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” initiative is progressing rapidly, with 33 government services soon to be fully digitized to ensure seamless, paperless governance.
Referring to Transparency International’s latest survey, Shafi Jan said the report confirms that the provincial government is effectively curbing corruption while aggressively promoting technology-driven reforms.
He congratulated the officers and the entire team of the Information Technology Board (KPITB) for their outstanding performance, stating that their efforts have positioned KP as a digital governance leader in the region.
