The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety & Halal Food Authority has conducted a series of major enforcement actions in Peshawar, targeting units involved in the production of adulterated spices and counterfeit tomato ketchup, a handout said.
The statement said that during the operations, food safety teams seized significant quantities of unsafe food products and sealed the offending units.
According to a spokesperson for the Food Authority, these actions were carried out following a tip-off about illegal food practices in the area.
During the crackdown, a raid on a spice manufacturing unit led to the discovery of 400 kilograms of adulterated spices, as well as bran and unfit cooking oil.
The inspection also revealed unhygienic conditions within the unit and the use of substandard raw materials.
In a separate operation, food safety teams raided two units producing fake tomato ketchup, seizing 1,200 litres of adulterated and hazardous ketchup.
The unsafe ketchup was destroyed on-site, and both manufacturing units were sealed for violating food safety laws.
The spokesperson further stated that heavy fines had been imposed on the owners for serious breaches of hygiene and food safety standards, and legal proceedings are underway.
