Members of the District Press Club Khyber, Landi Kotal undertook a day-long study and recreational tour of the district’s historic sites on Sunday.
During the visit, the media persons visited the historic Ali Masjid Fort in the Khyber Pass, the British-era underground hospital, the Khyber Rifles Mess, and later visited the Mechni Post at the Pakistan-Afghanistan Torkham border.
The journalist first visited the Ali Masjid Fort where the forces official briefed them of the pre-inference era history of Khyber Pass with help of portraits and maps showcased in the walls of the Fort.
They also viewed the underground hospital built under British rule in 1942 and inspected various sections of it.
The media persons delegation also visited the Khyber Rifle Mess and viewed the Museum.
They examined the chained tree, sun dial and other historical objects installed in the lawn of the mess.
Later on the journalist proceeded to Michni check post where the forces officials briefed the visitors on the strategic and historical importance of the Khyber Pass, the major battles fought in the area, its defense strategies, and its centuries-old role as one of the world’s most significant trade and transit routes.
Speaking on the occasion, District Press Club Khyber President Aman Ali Shinwari appreciated the forces for preserving the historical sites however he criticized the provincial government and the tourism department who had yet to fully utilize the region’s enormous tourism potential.
He said that with proper preservation of Khyber’s historical heritage and serious investment in tourism infrastructure, the district could emerge as a major destination for both domestic and international tourists.
The participating journalists praised the initiative, describing such educational and recreational tours as essential for media professionals who regularly work in unfavorable condition.
