A major renovation project worth Rs720 million was formally inaugurated at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Landikotal on Monday marking a significant step towards upgrading healthcare facilities in the border district of Khyber,minister said.
The inauguration was formally kicked off by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs Sahibzada Muhammad Adnan Qadri while Naveed Khan Afridi, brother of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi, Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Jameel Khan and other officials from the health department and district administration were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, provincial ministerial Sahibzada Muhammad Adnan Qadri said the Rs720 million project had been approved through the special efforts of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to modernise and rehabilitate DHQ Hospital Landikotal. He said the initiative reflected the provincial government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring quality medical services for the people of the district.
He said the project includes the complete renovation and rehabilitation of hospital buildings, repair and reconstruction of internal roads, improvement of the drainage system, upgrading of wards, outpatient department (OPD), emergency unit and other key facilities. Modern infrastructure and essential improvements would also be introduced to enhance the overall working environment of the hospital.
The minister announced that regular construction work on the project would begin tomorrow(Tuesday) and was expected to be completed within approximately two years.
He expressed confidence that upon completion, the hospital would be equipped to provide better healthcare services, reduce difficulties faced by patients and improve the quality of treatment available to residents of Landikotal and surrounding areas.
Responding to a question from journalists, the minister also announced that additional specialist doctors would soon be appointed at DHQ Hospital Landikotal to strengthen healthcare delivery.
He warned that strict legal action would be taken against absent or negligent staff members to ensure accountability and uninterrupted medical services.
He said the provincial government was determined to bring DHQ Hospital Landikotal at par with other major public hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by providing modern medical facilities, qualified healthcare professionals and improved infrastructure.
Hospital officials welcomed the launch of the long-awaited project, saying it would address longstanding infrastructural deficiencies and significantly improve the hospital’s capacity to serve thousands of patients from Landikotal, Tirah Valley, Torkham and other parts of Khyber district.
Local residents also expressed hope that the renovation would lead to better healthcare facilities and easier access to quality treatment for poor and deserving patients.
