The advisor to KP Chief Minister Muzammil Aslam on Saturday criticized the federal government’s decision to increase the petroleum levy by five rupees per litre, raising it to Rs 80.
In a statement, he said the move prevented expected relief for the public, as petroleum prices had been anticipated to drop by five rupees per litre.
He claimed that the federal government had quietly implemented measures to reduce the gas circular debt.
“Only 27 percent of the population has access to piped gas, yet all citizens bear the gas circular duty through petrol prices,” he said, adding that the debt originated from the PML-N’s 2015 LNG agreement.
Muzammil Aslam further stated that the federal government plans to suspend 45 LNG shipments from Qatar and ENI by 2027, with the resulting costs being passed on to consumers through the petrol levy.
He questioned the PML-N government’s broader economic vision, saying that its policies are shifting the financial burden to the public.
