Tribesmen from district Kurram staged a protest outside the Peshawar Press Club (PPC) on Tuesday, demanding immediate relief and rehabilitation for victims of Central Kurram amid severe hardships caused by ongoing unrest.
The protest was led by Maulana Shah Nawaz, Maulana Muhammad Anwar Nadeem, Malik Noor Chamkani, Malik Kashif, and other local leaders.
Demonstrators carried placards calling for the restoration of peace in the region.
Addressing the media, the protesters said that this was the third operation in Central Kurram, forcing residents to leave their homes in harsh winter conditions.
They said that many victims were living in camps and relatives’ houses without adequate food, medicine, or shelter.
Children and women were reportedly facing severe health and hygiene challenges, and fatalities among children have been reported due to the cold.
The protesters urged the government to take immediate action or at least issue NOCs to non-governmental organizations to provide relief.
They highlighted that locals of Kurram district face yearly suffering due to instability, while the government continues to evict residents from villages.
They demanded that authorities ensure protection for innocent residents, provide immediate aid, and restore peace and justice in Central Kurram.
The protesters warned that if their demands are ignored, they will escalate their demonstrations to the Governor House and Parliament House.
