A meeting of the Cabinet Standing Committee, chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Law, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs Aftab Alam, on Tuesday reviewed issues relating to the transfer and settlement of land acquired for various universities and public initiatives.
The meeting examined cases presented by different universities and institutions, court decisions and matters concerning outstanding amounts payable under judicial decrees. Participants were briefed on problems faced in land settlement, legal complications and proposals for resolving them.
Among those who attended were Minister for Public Health Engineering Fazal Shakoor Khan, Minister for Education and Local Government Meena Khan Afridi, the advocate general of KP, and representatives of the local government and rural development, public health engineering, agriculture, higher education, health and finance departments, as well as officials of the concerned universities and district administrations.
The committee emphasised that land acquisition and subsequent settlement matters must be handled in accordance with the law, in a transparent and timely manner, to protect the government from avoidable financial liabilities and prolonged litigation.
Addressing the meeting, Mr Alam said delays in land acquisition and payment of dues not only caused financial losses but also adversely affected the government’s reputation. He directed all departments concerned to discharge their responsibilities promptly in the light of court decisions and relevant laws.
He further instructed that all pending cases be comprehensively reviewed and actionable recommendations formulated to ensure permanent resolution of such matters.
