A charge nurse at Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) has alleged harassment and administrative irregularities in the hospital’s gynaecology unit, demanding a transparent investigation into the matter and protection for staff members who, she claimed, were facing pressure for raising concerns.
Shakila Naz, who has been serving in the gynaecology unit of Hayatabad Medical Complex as a nurse for around 18 years, made the allegations during a press conference at Peshawar Press Club (PPC) on Wednesday.
She alleged that she had faced harassment and inquiries after objecting to what she described as “illegal practices” in the gynaecology unit. She claimed that certain doctors and officials had pressured her, but she continued performing her duties.
The nurse alleged that she was being targeted because she had raised concerns regarding alleged unauthorised private procedures and other matters in the unit. She also levelled serious allegations regarding the handling of placentas and premature stillborn babies, demanding an impartial investigation into the matter.
She said several inquiries had been initiated against her and claimed that she was transferred despite approaching the court, which, according to her, granted her relief through a stay order. She alleged that hospital administration had not implemented the court’s directions.
Ms Naz further claimed that she had also faced financial difficulties as her salary had remained withheld for several months. She demanded intervention by Chief for an inquiry into the affairs of the gynaecology unit and protection for female staff members who, she claimed Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi, the Peshawar High Court chief justice, chief secretary and health minister for justice and restoration of her salary.
