A government lawmaker in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Thursday warned that the province was facing a “precarious” law and order situation, and urged the federal government to change course and take concrete steps to restore peace.
Speaking during the debate in the House, Fazal Hakeem said K-P was in the grip of a new wave of unrest and terrorism, with attacks rising sharply in the merged tribal districts and across the Pakhtun belt.
Referring to the recent violence in Swat, he told the Assembly that a suicide bombing had struck Kabal tehsil in the past few days, killing civilians and police officials.
“The country and the homeland are like a mother to us, but we will never accept anything unjust,” Mr Hakeem said. “The people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Pakhtuns have rendered countless sacrifices for Kashmir and for Pakistan. How long will the people of this province continue to bear such coffins?”
The MPA also expressed concern over what he called the overreach of institutions beyond their constitutional limits, describing it as “highly regrettable.”
He called for a coordinated strategy involving the provincial government, the federal government, law enforcement agencies and security forces to counter the rising incidents of terrorism and bring lasting stability to the province.
The Assembly was continuing its debate on the law and order situation in the province.
