Deputy Commissioner Swat Salim Jan Marwat inaugurated the Commissioner Malakand Cup 2026 cricket tournament at Grassy Ground, Saidu Sharif, on Friday.
Officials, players and cricket fans attended the opening ceremony, which began with the national anthem.
Mr Marwat said sports play a key role in youth development and building a healthy society. He added that the tournament would provide a platform for young players from across Malakand Division to showcase their talent.
Regional Sports Officer Dr Hazratullah Khattak said teams from 10 districts, including Swat, Dir, Buner, Bajaur and Chitral, are taking part. The opening match was played between Swat and Malakand.
He said foolproof security and proper facilities had been arranged for players and spectators. The chief guest expressed hope that such events would continue to promote healthy activities among youth.
