Islamabad: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has reacted to statements by Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz regarding the Azad Kashmir elections, saying the results of the elections would be remembered in history as “Form 47 Plus.” Memon said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had once again secured a “charitable mandate” through historic rigging. He said the people had rejected the PML-N in 2024 and had once again delivered their verdict in 2026. He said a government could be formed through a fake mandate, but popularity and genuine public support could not be achieved through such means. Commenting on Nawaz Sharif’s statement that he had not expected the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to give him an opportunity to complain, Memon termed the remarks unfortunate. He said Nawaz Sharif should first examine how the political circumstances in Azad Kashmir had developed before complaining about the PPP. Memon said the PPP had always respected democratic principles, the public mandate and political tolerance. If questions were raised over irregularities in an election, he added, it was the party’s democratic right to raise its voice. “The PPP does not want enmity with any political party, nor has it ever sought one,” Memon said, adding that rigging in the name of democracy or interference with the public mandate could not be accepted.
