ISLAMABAD: Election Commission (EC) has accepted Punjab government proposal for holding Local Bodies (LB) polls in Punjab. The LB polls in the province will take place between December 15, 2026 and January 15, 2027. Commission has sought plan from Punjab government for holding phased LB polls. A meeting of EC was held under Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) in EC office to settle date for holding LB polls in Punjab. Provincial government presented proposal for holding election between December 15, 2026 and January 15, 2027. CEC said that holding LB polls is constitutional requirement under article 140A of the constitution. It is responsibility of EC to hold election within 120 days on expiry of local governments tenure under elections act. Minister of local government Punjab Deeshan Rafiq said Chief Minister Punjab is determined for holding LB polls in Punjab. Time is needed for holding election and provision of proper resources.
