Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information and Science and Information Technology Minister Shafi Jan has claimed that the success of the ongoing street movement in Sindh has laid the foundation for “real political change” in the province.
Mr Jan, in a statement issued here, said the voice of PTI founder Imran Khan continued to resonate in Nawab Shah and other parts of interior Sindh on the third day of the movement, which, he claimed, indicated a shift in the province’s political landscape.
He said the enthusiasm and participation of people in the street movement showed that the people of Sindh were standing with Mr Khan and the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) in the struggle for “real freedom” and the Sept 27 long march.
Mr Jan said KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had led a successful street movement in Sindh after organising similar activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He claimed that the participation of people in the Sindh campaign represented their support for Mr Khan and the PTI.
“The success of the street movement has laid the foundation for real political change in Sindh,” he said, adding that the participation of people also suggested that the province’s “political monopoly” could soon come to an end.
The minister criticised the condition of roads, lack of basic facilities and persistent public grievances in Sindh, describing them as evidence of what he called the failure of the party that had remained in power in the province for years.
He alleged that political control over public resources had deprived the people of Sindh of basic services. The people, he said, now wanted to move away from traditional politics, political monopolies and what he termed the politics of deprivation.
Mr Jan described Imran Khan as “a ray of hope” for the nation and claimed that the PTI would work to address deprivation and underdevelopment in Sindh.
He said the Sept 27 long march would be a decisive phase in the campaign for Mr Khan’s release and “real freedom”. The march, he added, would open a new chapter in the struggle for the supremacy of the Constitution and law and for democratic rights in the country.
