Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi while announcing his support for making Islamabad a province has said this is such a case in regard to which every one should say labaik.
“Resetting the system does not mean end to the prevailing system. Its flaws have to be removed through democratic and public opinion. Regardless of what was done Mamdani and Sadiq Khan would do come.
Even I remain in my officer or otherwise I will not go back from this matter, he said this while addressing the National Policy Dialogue in Lahore.
“I want to tell you some facts . In previous days I talked about the need to reset the system which was given different color against the facts. Some termed it an indication to the present government.
Some linked it to representation of specific people.
I want to repeat it today too. I had not hinted to some political party nor this was directed to end political set up. I talked of the system which is running since 79 years and we are facing its negative results.
He said every one deliberates over one’s home. If some company does not work then its people sit and lay their heads and take steps to improve performance. Our system too is like this.
He said if the public was in favour of administrative units, they should be created, stressing that public opinion must be respected.
He urged that the decision on administrative units should be left to the people.
The minister further said Pakistan had become the world’s fifth-most populous country and that the system should be restructured after 79 years.
He said it had to be acknowledged that a reset was needed, adding that the government was ready to create new tehsils and divisions, while objections were being raised whenever the issue of new administrative units was discussed.
Mohsin Naqvi said that whenever there was talk of transferring power to the grassroots level, objections were raised. He said that despite 79 years, the country had still been unable to send 25 million children to school. He added that 55 percent of Pakistanis still did not have access to clean drinking water, while 2 million cases were pending in courts and people continued to face difficulties in seeking justice.
He said if we could not achieve better results in 79 year then we will have to reset the system. Governments go on changing. System continues to run on its place.
Let us see our education system. It is such as even 5th class student cannot read sentence correctly. people are not benefiting from basic health related facilities.
Reset does not mean breaking the system. Which thing is wrong, it has to be corrected through democratic and constitutional way.
No one can snatch the identity of Sindhi due to formation of new administrative units of Sindh.
He said division on administrative basis does not mean to enhance the number of governments but it is to make governance system better.
I am the biggest supporter of making Islamabad province. This is such case every one should say labaik to it, he added.
