In a bid to control air pollution and ensure a clean and healthy environment for citizens, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Transport Department has launched a strict province-wide operation against vehicles emitting toxic smoke.
The campaign is being carried out on the special directives of the Secretary Transport KP and the Director Transport.
According to Manager Weights Peshawar, Peer Zubair on Thursday, more than 15,000 vehicles have been inspected across the province during the past month as part of this special drive.
Of these, 10,000 vehicles were declared fit after meeting the required environmental standards, while 5,000 vehicles failed to comply and were declared unfit. Fines were imposed on violators, and in several cases, vehicle documents were confiscated.
Motor Vehicle Examiner (MVE) Peshawar, Inzamam Alam, stated that special attention is being given to checking emissions from private school transport vehicles
In this regard, notices have been formally issued to owners of private schools in Peshawar, directing them to get smoke emission tests and MV fitness checks conducted for all school vehicles within three days.
The MVE further added that owners of several well-known private schools in Peshawar have already deposited challans for smoke testing of their vehicles, calling it a positive development. However, strict legal action will be taken against schools or vehicle owners who fail to comply with the instructions.
Manager Weights clarified that the campaign will continue without discrimination and no vehicle causing environmental pollution will be allowed to operate on the roads. Citizens have also been urged to ensure timely inspection of their vehicles and cooperate with the government in establishing a clean and pollution-free environment.
