Agriculture development in context of climate change conference held in Peshawar

The Institute of Regional Studies Peshawar, a think tank which focus on governance issues in Pakistan, on Wednesday organized one-day conference on the prospects of development of agriculture in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the context of climate change.
The conference was held at the conference hall of the Directorate General of Agriculture at University of Agriculture Peshawar.
In recognition of the research and valuable services of the agricultural scientists who have performed prominently in the department, the award ceremony was held in collaboration with Dua Foundation Karachi under the chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Agriculture Peshawar Dr Jahan Bakht.
On this occasion, Secretary Agriculture of KP Dr Muhammad Asrar was the chief guest. While on this occasion, the directorate in cooperation with various institutions and agro-pharmaceutical companies involved in the development of agriculture in Sabzazar, under the supervision of Noor Hussain, Head of Agriculture Committee of IRS.
An agricultural exhibition was also organized at the premsis of the directorate.
DG Agriculture Dr Abdul Bari, Chairman of IRS Peshawar Dr Muhammad Iqbal Khalil, Vice Chairman Dr Fazlur Rehman Qureshi, DG Fazal Wahab of Agricultural Research Institute Tarnab Farm Peshawar were present in the opening session of the conference.
Dr Zahid Atta Cheema, former chairman of Agriculture University Faisalabad, and Dr Jahan Bakht, vice chancellor of Agriculture University Peshawar, gave key lectures on the development prospects of agriculture in the province in the context of climate change.
On this occasion, the participants of the conference were divided into three working groups of their interest, and experts in these fields presented their papers and gave their valuable opinions and suggestions.
Dr Atiq Ahmad Ali Zai of the Gomal University, Fazl Wahab Tarnab Farm Peshawar, Dr Noor Habib from Swat and other experts in the working group under the supervision of Prof Dr Abdul Mateen organized a working group on horticulture and vegetable cultivation.
Later on, Secretary Agriculture Dr Muhammad Israr and chairman of the IRS Peshawar Dr Muhammad Iqbal Khalil distributed shields and awards among the scientists who excelled in the field of agriculture.
