The Awami National Party (ANP) has announced a grand public rally on Wednesday, October 15, at Swabi Interchange near Anbar in honor of its Central President Senator Aimal Wali Khan.
The rally aims to reaffirm the party’s unwavering commitment to provincial autonomy, constitutional supremacy, and the dignity of parliament.
Provincial President of the Awami National Party (ANP), Mian Iftikhar Hussain, has declared that Senator Aimal Wali Khan’s recent speech in the Senate reflects the collective stance of the party. He emphasized that there will be no compromise on the constitution, provincial autonomy, or parliamentary dignity.
Addressing a press conference at Bacha Khan Markaz Peshawar after an emergency meeting of the provincial cabinet, Mian Iftikhar Hussain made it clear that the reaction to Senator Aimal Wali Khan’s Senate speech is not about personal opinion but rather a matter of fundamental national concern.
“This is a constitutional issue tied to the federal structure, provincial rights, constitutional authority, and democratic traditions,” he asserted.
He reaffirmed that the ANP in KP fully supports its Central President. “We have no personal enmity with anyone. Our stance has always been clear, uphold the constitution, enforce the law, protect provincial autonomy, and ensure the supremacy of parliament,” he said.
Mian Iftikhar strongly criticized what he called a government-backed media propaganda campaign, withdrawal of security for party leaders, and political targeting of the party, labeling these moves as undemocratic and unacceptable.
Referring to the core of Senator Aimal Wali Khan’s Senate speech, he said the ANP had simply asked a constitutional question: If international agreements on natural resources or minerals have been signed, were the provinces taken into confidence? He reminded the public and the authorities that under the constitution, especially after the 18th Amendment, minerals were the property of the provinces, and any such agreement made without consulting the Council of Common Interests (CCI) was unconstitutional.
The ANP leader also reiterated the party’s firm opposition to the controversial KP Mines and Minerals Bill, stating that Aimal Wali Khan’s speech was part of the broader struggle against it.
To further mobilize public support and strengthen this constitutional movement, the party will organize a grand public meeting on October 15, at Swabi Interchange Anbar.
The gathering will honor Aimal Wali Khan and reaffirm the ANP’s resolve to protect provincial rights, uphold constitutional principles, and defend parliamentary democracy.
Mian Iftikhar Hussain said: “The principled followers of Bacha Khan are still alive today.
We will resist every unconstitutional move, safeguard the rights of our province, and pursue all democratic and constitutional avenues to strengthen the federation.”
