Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Irrigation Minister Aqib Ullah Khan has said that effective measures are extremely necessary to deal with the flood situation, efforts are being made to construct a cold storage in Swabi, public cooperation and full awareness in this regard should be ensured for the success of the projects.
He expressed these views while presiding over a consultative meeting held in Peshawar yesterday with the support of the Asian Development Bank regarding the Pehur High Level Canal Extension Project Lot 4, Pehur Main Canal and irrigation scheme in Mulkhuw area of Upper Chitral. Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Transport Haji Rangaiz Khan and MPA Murtaza Tarakai were also present. Irrigation Department officials,
Project Director and other concerned officers and officials also attended the meeting. In the meeting, a detailed briefing was given about the Pehur High Level Canal Extension Project, Lot 4, Pehur Main Canal and Irrigation Scheme in Mulkhuw area of Chitral in the light of Draft PC-1, while the cost, benefits, challenges and required measures were also discussed.
Addressing the meeting, Provincial Minister for Irrigation Aqib Ullah Khan stressed on working with teamwork and full coordination in the better interest of the nation. He said that the Irrigation Department trys to make barren land cultivable. The Provincial Minister said that with the completion of ongoing projects, thousands of acres of new land will be irrigated. He also stressed on taking coordinated and systematic measures for the development and prosperity of the farmers. Aqib Ullah Khan issued instructions to the irrigation authorities to ensure coordination with the administrators of the Agriculture, Forestry, Public Health Engineering, C&W and Transport departments regarding development projects so as to ensure sustainable socio-economic development.
