Armed robbers escaped with over Rs 30 million after targeting a Bank of Punjab cash van in the Hashtnagri area of Peshawar, police said on Monday. According to SSP Operations Peshawar, the cash van failed to adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) for secure transportation.
The robbers, reportedly four in number, intercepted the van, looted the cash, and fled in a getaway vehicle. Two of them were seen arriving on a motorcycle before the heist. Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation and are analyzing CCTV footage from various locations to identify and apprehend the suspects.
Incidents of cash van robberies have been on the rise across the country. Last year, a security guard was killed while another was injured in Islamabad when armed robbers looted Rs 30 million from a cash van.
In Karachi, a van driver fled with Rs 205 million from a bank on I.I. Chundrigar Road, leading to a police investigation against him and his accomplices.
Authorities have urged cash transport companies to strictly follow security protocols to prevent such crimes.
