Army, Punjab, Wapda dominate National Youth and Jr Athletics


ISLAMABAD: Athletics Federation of Pakistan President Major General (R) Akram Sahi inaugurated National Youth and Junior Athletics Championship 2016 in a highly colourful ceremony held at Jinnah Stadium, Pakistan Sports Complex Monday.
More than 400 male and female athletes will showcase their talent in two-day extravaganza.
As per expectations Army dominated in the men’s juniors event with three gold medals on the opening day while Wapda managed to win a single gold in men’s category.
Punjab dominated the Youth category in men’s as they won 3 gold medals while Wapda girls’ came on top in the Junior category. president Sahi was the chief guest on the occasion while secretary M Zafar, Islamabad Athletics Association president Brig (R) Sultan Satti, OGDCL Sports Board Vice President Ajmal Sabir, Pakistan Sports Board DDG Academics Shahid Islam along with other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
In the male youth events, Waqar Younis of Railways won the first gold medal in 100m hurdles, followed by Muhamamd Jan of Punjab in second and Paris Ahmed of KP in third. In the long jump, Qamar Abbas of Punjab won gold, M Imran also from Punjab silver and Dilawar of Balochistan bronze.
In 1500m race, Adil of Punjab grabbed gold, M Nasir also of Punjab silver and Faris Yohan of KP bronze.
In Discus Throw Ghulam Mohiudeen of Punjab won gold, Usama Nawaz of KP silver and Abu Zar of KP won bronze medal.
In women youth events, Long Jump gold went to Punjab’s Eisha Imran while her teammate Aisha Zulfiqar grabbed silver and bronze went to Sindh’s Abida Nadeem.
In 200m race, Aysha Imran of Punjab won gold, Aisha Zulfiqar also from Punjab silver and Fazia Khalid of Wapda bronze.
In 1500m race, Tahreem Alam of Punjab won gold, Martha of Wapda silver and Javaria Jawad of Punjab clinched bronze.
In 400m race, Nadia Batool of Wapda won gold, Zainab of Islamabad silver and Rida of Wapda bronze.
In Discus Throw, Sahera of Punjab won gold, Aysha also from Punjab got silver and Faryal of AJK lifted bronze.
n men’s junior 110m hurdles, Mujahid Hussain of Army won gold, M Ihsan Umar of Punjab silver and Usama Dogar of Punjab bronze.
In Long Jump, M Afzal of Army won gold, M Shoaib Khan of Wapda silver and M Waqas of HEC bronze.
In 1500m race Sohail Aamir of Wapda won gold, M Shahbaz of Punjab silver and Waseem Nizai of HEC clinched bronze.
In High Jump, Azwat Naeew of PAF won gold, Shahroz of Wapda silver and M Zeeshan of Punjab bronze.
In 200m race, M Shahbaz of Army won gold, Moeed Baloch of Sindh silver and Laeeq Naveed of HEC bronze.
n females golden girl Sahib-e-Asra once again completely dominated the event and grab gold in every category she participated.
In 200m race Sahib-e-Asra of Wapda won gold, Shafaq Afran of HEC silver and Tourab Zara also HEC bronze.
In Discus Throw, Nadihe Avari of Sindh won gold, Rimsah Khan of Railways silver and Hifza Butt of Sindh bronze.
In 1500m race, Saba Yousaf of HEC gold, Maria Bibi of Wapda silver and Mah Noor of Punjab bronze.
In Long Jump, Sahib-e-Asra of Wapda gold, Shafaq Afreen of HEC silver and Javeria of Wapda bronze.
In 400m race, Sahiba-e-Asra Wapda gold, Mehlan Imtiaz of Wapda silver and Benish of Punjab bronze.
In High Jump, Zara of Sindh clinched gold and Shamila of Punjab won silver.
